POLICE MILITARY TO STRENGTHEN TIES

The Military and the Police have resolved to strengthen co-operation towards improved security and maintenance of law and order in the country. The two sister security agencies also indicated their commitment to working together to ensure a peaceful election, come November 7.

The Police-Military relationship was renewed and re-invigorated when Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshall Michael Samson-Oje paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police at the Police Headquarters on Thursday 21st April, 2016.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. John Kudalor, receiving his guest, expressed the gratitude of the Police Administration to the CDS for the co-operation and support the Police has enjoyed from their Military counterparts in the maintenance of law and order in the country over the years.

Specifically, the IGP mentioned joint operations like Operation Calm Life, Operation Gong-gong and others as areas the two agencies have and continue to co-operate. He also mentioned joint exercises like anti –terrorism simulation exercises and joint training exercises at Asutuare.

Mr. John Kudalor reminded the CDS that the Police would be making more demands on the Military in the areas of operational support, and command and drill training.

On his part, the CDS assured the IGP that, the Military would continue to assist the Police anytime the need arises. He also mooted the idea of the two security Services holding regular meeting to share ideas, and plan as to how best to work together.

Air policing also came up for discussion, and the CDS pledged the support of the Military for Police by way of training personnel to pilot helicopters and patrol with them.

The CDS, Michael Samson-Oje was accompanied by the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters Brig-Gen. Sampson Adeti, whilst in the IGPs company were, members of the Police Management Board.
