The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service works in plain clothes. The personnel of this branch are employed as specialists in connection with various aspects of crime detection.

The Gold Coast Police Force now called the Police Service was Formed in 1894 but the real police work started in the then Gold Coast, now the Republic of Ghana, in the year 1921.

The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas has congratulated the Ghana Police Service for the “extremely competent manner in which the Police conducted themselves during the 2016 general election”. He said that everything happened exactly as they had been briefed by the Police Administration before the polls.

The Ghana Police Service and the Canadian High Commission have discussed matters of bilateral co-operation between them. The Canadian High Commission pledged to assist the Ghana Police Service in areas of the Service’s prior interest, to support the development of the Police.

MARINE POLICE CHARGED TO HELP SAVE FISHING INDUSTRY

Personnel of the Ghana Police Marine Unit have been charged to join hands with stakeholders of the fisheries industry to fight illegal, Unregulated and Unreported Fishing [IUU] in Ghana.

POLICE MILITARY TO STRENGTHEN TIES

The Military and the Police have resolved to strengthen co-operation towards improved security and maintenance of law and order in the country.
